Amy Poehler‘s Good Hang took home the award for Best Podcast at Sunday night’s Golden Globes, marking the first-ever winner for the brand-new category.
“I don’t know about award shows, but when they get it right, it makes sense,” Poehler joked, accepting the award from Snoop Dogg. “I know I’m new to this game. I have great respect for this form. I have great respect for all the people that I have nominated with. I’m big fans of all of you, except for NPR, just a bunch of celebs phoning it in. So try harder. But this is an attempt to try to make a very rough and unkind world filled with a little bit more love and laughter, laughing with people not at them.”
Poehler beat out fellow nominees Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard, Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy, The Mel Robbins Podcast, SmartLess — hosted by actors Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes — and NPR’s Up First — which host Nikki Glaser introduced by doing a spoof of Nicole Kidman’s AMC commercial.
Poehler is new to the podcast world, launching Good Hang in March 2025. Since then, she’s had a host of her celebrity and comedian friends on the show, including fellow SNL alum Tina Fey, Parks & Rec co-star Rashida Jones, Martin Short, Seth Meyers, Idris Elba, and many more.
The new category was announced in March as a “way to recognize new forms of storytelling,” Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne said in a previous statement. “Podcasts have emerged as a profound medium for sharing narratives and building communities across global borders and generations. By celebrating achievements in both audio and visual podcasts, we aim to honor our heritage categories while making room for new voices and formats to be heard.”
A total of 25 podcasts were eligible for the award, determined by analytics firm Luminate, including several news-based shows, politically-leaning programs, and true-crime series. However, apart from Up First, all of the nominated podcasts are personality-driven shows, largely helmed by celebrity talent.

The awards show steered clear of rewarding any politically-leaning podcast, including Pod Save America and the country’s biggest podcast by the numbers, The Joe Rogan Experience. Podcasts from conservative figures Megyn Kelly, Tucker Carlson, Ben Shapiro, and Candace Owens also failed to secure a nomination.
