Australia's Bree Walker won gold in the monobob at the World Cup event in Switzerland.

Walker achieved the first Australian victory at the legendary St Moritz-Celerina track.

She is second on the overall World Cup standings following her triumph. 

Bree Walker is on course for a Winter Olympic monobob medal after becoming the first Australian to win a World Cup gold at the famed St Moritz-Celerina track in Switzerland. 

Walker's victory was her third of the World Cup season, moving the 33-year-old to second on the overall standings ahead of next month's Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics.

The Queenslander posted 1 minute and 11.98 seconds in her opening run, which was the fastest time of the round.

She showed cool nerves when she took to the track as the last competitor in the final run, clocking 1:11.29 for a combined time of 2:23.27.

She finished 0.53 ahead of Switzerland's silver medallist Melanie Hasler (2:23.80), with Austria's Katrin Beierl claiming bronze in 2:23.95.

Fellow Australian Sarah Blizzard (2:26.06) was 20th on the final standings.

Walker, who has won six World Cup events in her career, said her coach Pierre Lueders deserved much of the credit for the victory in Switzerland.

"Pierre has been teaching me for years, and it's been a slow process," she said.

"He loves this track and has had so much success here, so I think I should dedicate this win to him today."

Walker finished ninth in the previous World Cup event held in Winterberg, Germany.

She has 1,219 points on the overall World Cup standings, sitting behind German Laura Nolte (1,246 points).

She will return to the St Moritz-Celerina track on Monday AEDT for the two-woman bobsleigh event, teaming up with Kiara Reddingius.
