A moment from the Perth Scorchers vs Sydney Thunder match went viral on Tuesday, December 30, after some Scorchers players were involved in an unusual incident before the game.Laurie Evans, Ashton Agar, Aaron Hardie and Mahli Beardman were travelling to the stadium in an Uber when the car broke down on the way.
With the vehicle coming to a halt, the four players stepped out and pushed it in an effort to restart it, before getting back in and continuing their journey to the ground.
A video of the incident spread widely on social media, and commentators later confirmed the episode with one of the players during the live broadcast. The incident soon became a topic of discussion during the Big Bash League match.Details of the episode emerged during the telecast, with middle-order batter Laurie Evans later speaking about it in a light-hearted way, prompting reactions from both fans and commentators."We took an Uber but unfortunately the Uber broke down, so we have to give them a hand to the side of the road. It was a different way of arriving but it was good fun. There was four of us. There was me, Hards, Mahli, and Ags," Evans told the commentators when asked about the incident. The unexpected delay did not affect the Scorchers on the field. Batting first, they posted a total of 202 runs, with Ashton Turner scoring an unbeaten 99. Turner missed out on a hundred after the last recognised batter, Ashton Agar, was out while trying to hit a big shot over midwicket. The Scorchers followed it up with a strong bowling effort, dismissing the Thunder for 131 in 17.3 overs. The win moved Perth to third place on the Big Bash League points table, behind Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes.
