Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Fabian Hurzeler wants more goals and assists from dangerous positions for Yankuba Minteh.
The Gambian winger amassed 124 touches inside the opposition’s box in the first half of the season, the highest number of any player in the Premier League.
Minteh, 21, has had one more touch than Erling Haaland, but the Manchester City marksman has 19 goals and four assists in 17 league appearances, compared to one goal and four assists for Minteh over the same number of games.
“It shows that we get into the opponents’ box a lot of times, which is positive,” Hurzeler said in his press conference ahead of Saturday’s match against Burnley. “Secondly, we know there is still potential from Minteh and other players in execution in certain moments, where he can improve.
“He is there, that is the main bit. Our team brings him into this position, that’s a positive. We have to give him the support and help in how to find better solutions in these moments, stay calmer, focus on technique of the execution and try not to get too emotional. Then I am quite convinced that he is getting back on track, back to scoring.”
Minteh has recovered from a dead leg which forced him off in the second half after he was brought down for Danny Welbeck’s first-half penalty in Tuesday’s 2-2 draw at West Ham. Brighton will leap from 14th to eighth in the table if they end a six-match run without a win against 19th-placed Burnley at the Amex Stadium.
