Calum McFarlane is set to be part of Liam Rosenior’s coaching staff at Chelsea.
The now former Under-21s coach took charge of the first team on an interim basis for two games following Enzo Maresca’s departure from the club earlier this month.
He presided over the 1-1 draw away at Manchester City on Sunday and the 2-1 defeat by Fulham on Wednesday evening.
Rosenior is now set to take over, having agreed a contract to 2032, beginning with the FA Cup third-round tie against Charlton Athletic on Saturday night.
The 41-year-old has asked McFarlane to be part of his staff going forward, which also includes his former assistants with Strasbourg, Justin Walker and Kalifa Cisse, and analyst Ben Warner.
“We are pretty aligned in how we think about football,” McFarlane said of Rosenior. “I’ve seen Liam’s teams play before, and he plays really attractive football, really exciting football, and what fans want at any club is that their players are putting in effort, quality, commitment and winning matches.
“Of course, you get the supporters onside by winning, and that will be the objective.”
Rosenior watched Wednesday’s defeat at Craven Cottage alongside co-owner Behdad Eghbali, who was the subject of critical chants from away supporters during the game.
The result leaves Chelsea eighth in the Premier League table, three points behind fourth-placed Liverpool.
