Chappell Roan helped ring in 2026 with a performance of “The Subway” on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest, which was pre-recorded from her Kansas City show. The star released the track this summer, a highly anticipated song for her fans ever since she began singing it during her live sets the year prior.
Roan was part of a supersized New Year’s Rockin’ Eve telecast featuring performances from coast-to-coast. The main event in New York City’s Times Square was hosted by Seacrest and Rita Orr, and featuring Diana Ross, Ciara, Maren Morris, Le Sserafim, and Little Big Town.
On the other side of the U.S., Rob Gronkowski and Julianne Hough hosted from Las Vegas, with a stacked West Coast lineup featuring Mariah Carey, Madison Beer, 50 Cent, Charlie Puth, Demi Lovato, 4 Non Blondes, Goo Goo Dolls, and KPop Demon Hunters‘ Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami as Huntr/X. Rockin’ New Year’s Eve also broadcasted from Chicago with Chance the Rapper, and Puerto Rico with Daddy Yankee.
For Roan, the performance capped off a busy year as she continued to support her breakthrough album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. She also released a pair of new songs, “The Giver” and “The Subway,” with the latter recently earning Grammy nominations for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. (Roan’s 2025 notably began with her taking home Best New Artist at the Grammys, too.)
