Commanders CB Marshon Lattimore faces misdemeanor weapons charge: Police
Lattimore’s attorney described the incident in an interview with The Athletic as a “misunderstanding."
Washington Commanders cornerback Marshon Lattimore will be charged with one count of failing to disclose a concealed weapon, stemming from an incident Wednesday in Lakewood, Ohio, Lakewood Police Department Capt. Gary Stone told The Athletic. The charge is a second-degree misdemeanor in Ohio, punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a fine of up to $750.
Lattimore is expected to make his initial court appearance Thursday.
According to Lakewood police records, Lattimore was arrested on the 11700 block of Clifton Boulevard around 6:14 p.m. (ET) Wednesday and booked at the Lakewood jail. He was later released pending an investigation, and no charges were immediately filed.
Lattimore, according to Stone, was the passenger in a car registered in his name that was parked in a handicap spot outside a CVS drugstore. A woman, who was not arrested, entered the driver’s seat of the car and began to pull out of the parking lot. According to Stone, she failed to stop at the sidewalk before turning onto West 117th Street. The patrolling officer stopped the car and, after running the license plate number, discovered the plates had expired in May 2025, Stone said.
The officer asked if there was a weapon in the car, and Lattimore and the driver told him no, according to Stone. The officer then found a loaded pistol in the glove compartment, and Lattimore was arrested, booked in the Lakewood jail and later released.
Marcus Sidoti, Lattimore’s attorney, told The Athletic that “the gun is lawfully possessed, he has a right to carry a firearm, he has no criminal record that disables him,” and that Lattimore is “continuing to cooperate with law enforcement.” Sidoti described the incident as a “misunderstanding,” saying Lattimore had recently returned to Ohio and possibly “forgot” the gun was in the car and that the plates had expired.
In March 2021, Lattimore was arrested in Cleveland on a concealed weapons charge. He pleaded not guilty that November and received a suspended sentence of 180 days. Lattimore was ordered to serve one year of “non-reporting” supervised probation and pay a $1,000 fine. He was removed from non-reporting supervision in May 2022, according to Cuyahoga County court records.
Lattimore, a Glenville, Ohio, native, was traded to the Commanders in November 2024 after spending the first seven-plus seasons of his NFL career with the New Orleans Saints. His 2025 season was cut short because of an ACL injury he suffered during Washington’s Week 9 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
He was at the team’s Ashburn, Va., headquarters Monday to clean out his locker and go through his exit interviews with the coaching staff.
In a statement released Thursday, the Commanders said they “have been made aware of the arrest and are gathering more information. We have informed the NFL League Office and have no further comment at this time.”
Lattimore is among the Commanders’ veterans on the bubble for next season. The team acquired him in 2024 when it believed it was close to contending, but the ’25 season spiraled, and this incident could further complicate Lattimore’s future with the organization.
