Dow Surges to Record High, Touching 49,000 for First Time

The Dow on Monday surged north of 49,000 for the first time.

The blue-chip index rallied 651 points, or 1.4%. It set a fresh intraday record of 49,064.75. It needs to close above 48,731.16 to set its first record close of 2026.

Following the U.S.'s capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, Wall Street was favoring consumer discretionary, financials, energy, industrials, communication services, and materials. Goldman Sachs, the top Dow stock, was adding 233 points to the index on its own.
