Driver charged after car ploughs into Baldivis home
Residents of a Baldivis home had a rude awakening in the middle of the night when a car ploughed into their house.
A 27-year-old man has been charged after allegedly ploughing his car through the wall of a home in Baldivis while driving drunk early on Sunday morning, with the vehicle coming to a rest atop a pile of rubble inside the home.
Emergency services were called to the home on Poorinda Lane about 1.40am on Sunday after a white Toyota Camry sedan crashed into the property.
A nine-year-old girl was sleeping inside the home at the time of the crash, and her father had just been in the kitchen only minutes before to as he got ready for bed.
Despite what WA Police described as “significant structural damage” done to the home, the residents walked away unscathed while the alleged driver of the sedan was taken to Rockingham Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
On Monday, police confirmed the 27-year-old had been charged with driving under the influence and driver fails to stop after traffic incident where property damage has occurred. He was summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
The homeowner, Michael, told 9News Perth his daughter slept through the crash, and it was only when the car’s horn went off that she woke up.
