Eintracht Frankfurt confident of signing Arnaud Kalimuendo on loan from Nottingham Forest
The 23-year-old forward has been used sparingly at Forest despite the injury to Chris Wood.
Eintracht Frankfurt are confident of signing Nottingham Forest’s Arnaud Kalimueno on loan.
The 23-year-old, who only joined Forest last August, will move to Deutsche Bank Park for the rest of the season if the deal is completed, with Frankfurt having the option to make the move permanent.
Kalimuendo has made 13 appearances for Forest in all competitions, scoring two goals in the Europa League. The former France Under-21 international has not started a game or scored in the Premier League, with his last appearance coming in the 1-0 defeat by Fulham on December 22.
He would become Frankfurt’s second forward signing of the January transfer window. Having allowed forward Elye Wahi, who moved to the club in January 2025, to join Nice, they have already signed Younes Ebnoultalib from Elversberg in the 2.Bundesliga. Kalimuendo will provide further competition within a forward line currently without Jonathan Burkardt and Michy Batshuayi, both of whom suffered injuries before the winter break and remain unavailable.
Kalimuendo was part of a flurry of attacking additions in the space of a few days in mid-August, when Forest spent in excess of £90million ($121m) on three new signings, with attacking midfielder James McAtee (£30m) arriving from Manchester City and winger Omari Hutchinson (£37.5m) from Ipswich, in addition to Kalimuendo.
Kalimuendo yet to fulfil potential
Analysis by Nottingham Forest writer Paul Taylor
Forest spent £26m to sign Kalimuendo from Rennes and the club were excited about his potential, with the Frenchman having built a reputation as a bright prospect in European football. But he has found his opportunities limited under three different managers at the City Ground.
Kalimuendo has scored two goals in four appearances in the Europa League, but his Premier League opportunities have been limited to eight substitute appearances.
And, when Sean Dyche needed an attacking option off the bench in Forest’s most recent defeat to Everton, he called upon Taiwo Awoniyi — a proven striker but a player who has struggled with injury for some time.
With Chris Wood expected to be sidelined for several weeks as a minimum following surgery to repair a long-standing knee problem, Forest hope to bolster their own attacking options during the January window.
They are among a number of clubs who hold an interest in Wolves’ forward Jorgen Strand Larsen, although he is among a clutch of potential options.
