Gurpreet Singh and Jasveer Singh, the two Indian-origin truckers, arrested in Indiana for transporting 309 pounds of cocaine entered the US illegally, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed.

Gurpreet Singh illegally entered the US on March 11, 2023 near Lukeville, Arizona and was released into the country under the Biden administration. Gurpreet Singh freely admitted to law enforcement that he was a citizen of India and was illegally in the US, the DHS said, blaming the Biden administration's 'catch and release' policy. On Jasver Singh, the DHS said he entered the US on March 21, 2017 near California. He was arrested on December 5, 2025, for receiving stolen property in San Bernardino, California.

ICE lodged an arrest detainer. "Due to Governor Newsom’s sanctuary polices, the detainer was not honored, and this criminal illegal alien was released back into American communities," the administration said, passing on the blame.

Jasveer and Gurpreet's semi was stopped by the troopers as they had a tip off that there were drugs inside. Jasveer and Gurpreet told the police that they were not aware of what was inside the truck.

Their trucking company instructed them to take the semi to a nearby Indian restaurant and wait for the load of freight. They told the police that the truck was empty and was about to be loaded. Both of them told the police that they traveled separately to Joplin, Missouri, to get on board the semi that they were traveling.

They did not initially oppose a search of the truck but after calling the truck company, they resisted the search. Police found 309 pounds of cocaine hidden in the sleeper berth of the semi truck. "With a lethal dose of cocaine being as little as 1.2 grams, that is enough to kill more than 113,000 Americans," the DHS said. “Thanks to Gavin Newsom’s reckless policies, these two criminal illegal aliens were granted commercial drivers licenses by the state of California and were arrested for trafficking a whopping 300 pounds of cocaine inside a semi-truck,” said DHS assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “Gavin Newsom and his fellow sanctuary politicians even refused to honor an arrest detainer on one of these criminal illegal aliens in December.
