Ex-Auburn QB Deuce Knight commits to Ole Miss: What it means for the Rebels
The commitment comes after Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss' waiver request for an extra season of eligibility in 2026 was denied.
Former Auburn quarterback Deuce Knight, one of the top uncommitted transfer quarterbacks available, announced Sunday that he has committed to Ole Miss.
Knight’s commitment fills a major need for the Rebels and comes less than 48 hours after they received news from the NCAA that quarterback Trinidad Chambliss’ waiver request for an extra season of eligibility in 2026 was denied.
The Rebels had been vetting transfer quarterback options well before the decision in case Chambliss was denied the extra year. Austin Simmons, Chambliss’ backup who entered the 2025 season as Ole Miss’ starter before an ankle injury sidelined him in September, transferred to Missouri last week, increasing the Rebels’ need for a transfer quarterback in this portal cycle.
Knight, the No. 13 player in The Athletic’s transfer portal quarterback rankings, was a five-star recruit in Auburn’s 2025 high school signing class and entered the portal on Jan. 2. He was high on Ole Miss’ list from the start.
The 6-foot-4, 217-pound Knight impressed in his lone start in 2025, a 62-17 rout of FCS opponent Mercer. Knight accounted for 401 total offensive yards (239 passing, 162 rushing) and six touchdowns (two passing, four rushing) in the Nov. 22 win. Though he only appeared in two games and took 62 snaps in 2025, Knight was viewed as Auburn’s starting quarterback of the future when he was there.
Coming out of high school, Knight was the No. 28 overall prospect and fifth-ranked quarterback recruit in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite. Knight’s commitment to the Rebels will bring the Lucedale, Miss., product back to his home state, where he threw for 7,855 yards and 56 touchdowns and ran for 1,361 yards and 31 more scores as a star for George County High.
The Rebels also had interest in Florida quarterback transfer DJ Lagway, who committed to Baylor on Thursday but had yet to sign his paperwork. Lagway, the No. 8 QB in the transfer portal, visited Ole Miss on Saturday.
Scouting report on Knight
This is a big get for the Rebels. While Knight doesn’t have the same playing experience that previous breakout transfer QB stars Jaxson Dart and Chambliss had when they arrived in Oxford, he is an eye-popping talent who could be special. Knight’s blend of size, speed and intangibles is rare. At the Elite 11 regional combine two years ago, the 6-4 lefty clocked a 4.53-second 40-yard dash and had his vertical jump measured at a stunning 41.9 inches.
