GURGAON: The family of a 25-year-old woman, who was left with grievous injuries by two men who raped and brutalised her and threw her out of a moving vehicle on Dec 30, has alleged the crime was committed inside an ambulance.They claimed the 25-year-old, who was on her way back home late at night amid dense fog, had asked for a lift when she saw the Eeco van coming her way and, seeing it was an ambulance, trusted it.

The family has also alleged that both men taken into custody by police are ambulance workers attached to the fleet of a private hospital chain with establishments in Noida and Faridabad. The Eeco van was seized by the crime branch after police detained the suspects, but there's no official word on whether it was indeed used as an ambulance.Police are also waiting for a test identification parade (TIP), which can only happen once the woman is in a condition to do so. She is currently in hospital, with trauma injuries to the face, eyes and shoulders.Woman's family seeks help to bear cost of medical treatmentA senior police officer said, "We can't disclose details of the investigation till the TIP. Our crime branch team swiftly arrested the suspects and seized the vehicle. We will ensure the culprits get punished for their crime."
The woman's elder sister, meanwhile, sought help, saying they did not have the resources to bear mounting medical expenses. The sister said the family had paid Rs 45,000 to the hospital. "Many people have visited the hospital and assured us of help but no one offered any financial assistance so far," she said. The sister also alleged family members were not being allowed to visit the injured woman in her hospital room.
A police officer said no family member had been stopped and it was doctors who had advised extra precaution so that the patient does not acquire an infection. Haryana State Women's Commission chairperson Renu Bhatia, who visited on Friday, assured help in shifting her to another hospital, the family claimed. With stitches on her face, the woman was under doctors' close watch in hospital. According to sources, she sustained multiple fractures, including severe injuries to the right side of her face and shoulder, and is not in a condition to speak. The woman has two children, a four-year-old son and a seven-year-old daughter, who are currently with their maternal grandmother. She is one of five sisters. Her husband is based in Delhi, and the couple has been living separately. The two suspects pushed her out of the vehicle near Raja Chowk in SGM Nagar around 3am. The woman managed to contact her sister, who took her to hospital. Doctors later referred her to a Delhi hospital, but the family admitted her to a private facility in NIT, Faridabad. An FIR was filed at Kotwali police station under sections 70(1) (gang rape), 351(3) (criminal intimidation) and 3(5) (act done by several persons) of BNS.
