Police chief bans senior officers to update Justice Ministry on probe into former top IDF lawyer
Police Commissioner Danny Levy has prohibited the head of the police's investigations and intelligence division, Boaz Balat, from updating the Justice Ministry on the probe into former military advocate general Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi.
Haaretz has learned that in recent days, the deputy attorney general contacted Balat and asked if the investigation had indeed been concluded, amid a series of hearings at the High Court of Justice on the subject.
While the police have already informed the High Court of Justice that the investigation is in its final stages and will likely end in the next few days, they have not yet officially announced its conclusion.
Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara is barred from being involved in the case, as per the High Court of Justice ruling. Shin Bet seemingly shifts position on polygraph tests for politicians under new far-right chief
The Shin Bet security service has seemingly signalled support for a 2023 bill that would force politicians to sit through a polygraph test, marking a stark shift from the stance taken by the top domestic spychief.
In a security cabinet meeting on Thursday, some members had complained that the significant security decisions were taken elsewhere. In response, Shin Bet director David Zini had asked members whether they would be willing to take a polygraph test, seemingly hinting that they were not to be trusted amid alleged leaks to the press.
A source with knowledge of the details told Haaretz that Zini is "furious about the security cabinet leaks." The bill had been opposed by the attorney general and previous Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar, citing a potential harm to the free press.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has admitted in police testimony to leaking documents from security cabinet meetings to the press, would likely receive an exemption from a polygraph test as he has a pacemaker.
Zini, a far-right former IDF officer whose family reportedly has close ties to the Netanyahu family, was picked by the prime minister during the attempted ouster of Bar. Zini, who is heavily influenced by Rabbi Zvi Yisrael Thau, the most extreme figure in the modern religious Zionist camp and spiritual leader of the homophobic Noam Party, has called for "eternal war" in Gaza and opposed the hostage deals.

Dutch police arrest Syrian man suspected of being ISIS member and of planning attack
Dutch police have arrested a 29-year-old Syrian man they suspect of being a member of Islamic State and planning an attack somewhere in Europe, prosecutors said on Tuesday, based on the man's social media posts.
The prosecutors said the intelligence agency AIVD had found social media posts in which the man threatened to commit an attack at an unspecified place in Europe around Christmas.
They did not elaborate on the suspected planned attack or on their suspicions that the man was a member of Islamic State.
The man was arrested on December 18 in his house in Vlissingen in the southwest of the Netherlands, and a court on Tuesday ruled that his detention would be extended by at least 30 days as an investigation continued.
