Google recently integrated the Gemini 3 AI model into Gmail. Announcing the update, CEO Sundar Pichai shared an X post writing: “We launched Gmail on April Fool’s Day in 2004. 20+ years later, we’re bringing Gmail into the Gemini era.
AI Overviews, Suggested personalized replies, Proof read, AI Inbox with new streamlined views and suggested topics to catch-up on and loads more”. Now, Google AI CEO and Nobel Laureate Demis Hassabis has replied to Pichai’s post saying the AI integration into Gmail has been on his “personal wishlist for a long time”. Google supercharges Gmail with AI
As announced by the company, Gmail is getting AI features like AI overviews, automated drafting and proofreading, and AI-powered inbox.
Explaining how AI overviews work in Gmail, the company said in a blog post: “Just like they do in Google Search, AI Overviews turn information into answers without the digging. When you open an email with dozens of replies, Gmail synthesizes the entire conversation into a concise summary of key points.
” AI Overview conversation summaries are available to all users for free. The ability to ask your inbox questions with AI Overviews is available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
The tech giant has also expanded ‘Help me write’ tool to include features such as ‘Help me write’, ‘Suggested replies’ and ‘Proofread’. As announced by Google, Help Me Write and Suggested Replies are rolling out to everyone at no cost, while the Proofread feature is available for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.Lastly, AI Inbox is like having a personalized briefing, highlighting to-dos and catching you up on what matters. It helps you prioritize, identifying your VIPs based on signals like people you email frequently, those in your contacts list and relationships it can infer from message content.
