A young medical student and published author seriously injured in a horror high-speed crash involving an allegedly stolen ute a month ago has died in hospital.
Lidija Faamau, 21, was rushed to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition following the crash in Sydney's south-west on December 10.
She was a passenger in a BMW sedan when an allegedly stolen Ford Ranger ute being driven by a 17-year-old boy ran a red light and crashed into the vehicle.
The ute had allegedly been involved in a police pursuit prior to the crash.
Ms Faamau suffered a major brain injury, a fractured spine, fractured ribs, and serious internal injuries to her liver and spleen.
NSW Police revealed on Saturday that Ms Faamau has since died in hospital.
She had been in her fourth year of a medical science degree at Western Sydney University with dreams of becoming a paediatrician.
She was described by loved ones as strong-willed, compassionate, and exceptionally intelligent.
'She was the life of the party, a bright light in this world who lit up every room she walked into,' a recent fundraiser read.

Ms Faamau was also a published author who released 'Le Demyon' in 2020.
The female driver and a second passenger in the BMW were also seriously injured in the crash. They have since been released from hospital.
