Van Veen beat giant-killer Charlie Menby 4-1 and the 23-year-old has been in fearsome form. That could be the match of the day.
In the afternoon session's second, Gary Anderson will face Justin Hood. Anderson, the last person to win back-to-back titles here, rolled back the years to dispose of third seed Michael van Gerwen with an average of just under 100 in the last 16, while Hood hit 11 doubles in a row to demolish Josh Rock 4-0 and keep alive his dreams of opening a Chinese restaurant with his prize money.
Before that, Ryan Searle faces fifth seed Jonny Clayton in a match between arguably the tournament's two form players. Heavy Metal has dropped just 11 legs all tournament, while the Ferret beat Andreas Harrysson 4-2 and confirm his spot at number four in the new world rankings next week.
