‘Ignored signals, sudden U-turn, gunfight’: How cops nabbed Noida lift chain snatcher

NOIDA: A man accused of attempting to snatch a gold chain from a senior citizen inside La Residentia society in Greater Noida West was arrested following a brief gunfight during a late-night vehicle check on Saturday.The accused, Rahul Yadav, allegedly entered the condominium wearing a helmet and followed the elderly woman into the lobby of Tower B1. CCTV footage showed him attempting to snatch her chain as she was stepping into the elevator, before fleeing the scene moments later. The incident triggered outrage among residents, who blamed security lapses at the gated complex.

Police said Yadav was intercepted on Saturday during a routine check near the stretch between the Ace City roundabout and the Khairpur roundabout close to Sector 3.
According to additional DCP (Central Noida) Santosh Kumar, the suspect, riding a motorcycle, ignored signals to stop and attempted to flee after making a sudden U-turn.
"When the police team pursued him, the accused opened fire in an attempt to escape," Kumar said. Police returned fire in self-defence, injuring the suspect in the leg. He was later taken to a hospital.A country-made pistol, one live cartridge, one spent cartridge and a motorcycle without a number plate were recovered from his possession.
Police said the motorcycle had been stolen earlier this year from the Bisrakh area.Investigators confirmed that Yadav is a resident of Hathras district and was currently staying in East Delhi. During questioning, he allegedly confessed to his involvement in the attempted chain snatching at La Residentia society.A case has been registered at Bisrakh police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. sections 304(2) (snatching) and 62 (attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment).
