IDF chief of staff instructs army to only use phrase 'War of Revival' for Gaza war triggered on Oct. 7
Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir on Thursday instructed the army to use only the name "War of Revival" for the Gaza war triggered on October 7.
Last October, the government decided to give this name to the war, which was initially called "Iron Swords." According to the proposal, brought by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz, the change reflects "the fact that this war is a milestone in the rebirth of the State of Israel."
In the past two years, Netanyahu has raised the issue of the war's name several times, and at a cabinet meeting in October 2024, he proposed calling it the "War of Rebirth." The move was criticized by the opposition, which claimed that the prime minister was working to "engineer consciousness" and obscure his responsibility for the October 7th failure by choosing a name that does not reflect the disaster.
