Madhyamik admit card as 14th SIR document? Bengal CEO urges Election Commission to clarify
West Bengal's Chief Electoral Officer has sought clarification from the Election Commission on accepting Madhyamik admit cards as a valid birth document. Currently, matriculation certificates are accepted, but if approved, admit cards could become the 14th document, potentially making Bengal the first state to allow this. KOLKATA: Can Madhyamik admit card be Bengal's 14th SIR document? The West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer asked the EC to clarify. The SIR hearings are throwing up multiple pleas by people who did not clear Madhyamik but have the admit card, with their date of birth documented in it, as a valid birth certificate.
If the EC allows it, this rule will be applicable to all voters in Bengal, a senior EC official said."We were informed that the date of birth is mentioned in the Madhyamik admit card also. So, we made a recommendation to the EC to accept Madhyamik admit card as one of the documents. If the commission gives the nod to our recommendation, the Madhyamik admit card will be accepted in hearings," the official said.
