A man has been charged after unknown human remains were found in a Merseyside flat.
George Gordon, 65, of Gerards Court, in St Helens, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and has since been charged with preventing the lawful and decent burial of a dead body and obstructing a coroner in the execution of his/her duty.
Officers were rushed to the home on Thursday after a concern for safety report was made around 11.30pm and made the grisly discovery.
Mr Gordon has been remanded to appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court this morning.
The 65-year-old man remained in custody on Friday as a second scene developed on Douglas Road in Anfield as part of the same investigation.
A white forensic tent has been erected at the rear of the building, and a mobile police station has been set up nearby.
House-to-house enquiries, CCTV reviews and forensic examinations are ongoing.
Floral tributes have also been left at the entrance to the building.
