Marc Guggenheim Penning Sci-Fi Murder Mystery Comic ‘The Whisper War’
Artist Sedat Oezgen is also behind the five-issue series, arriving Feb. 10 from Comixology Originals.
Marc Guggenheim is headed to the future with The Whisper War, a sci-fi mystery thriller due out next month.
Guggenheim, the prolific TV showrunner and writer whose credits include Arrow and Carnival Row, is joined on the project by Savage Sword of Conan artist Sedat Oezgen.
The five-issues series takes place in the Shattered Realm years after a civil war claimed one third of the population of the planet Imprimata. No one remembers why the war was fought, who won, or anything else. But now, in the planet’s capital city of Apperax, a murder is committed with no suspects, forensics or theories. A former cop comes out of retirement to investigate the murder, with only intuition and a nagging sense of déjà vu to go on.
“This is my first time writing a comic book for a specific artist,” says Guggenheim. “In doing so, I took inspiration from Sedat’s portfolio, leaning into the images and concepts he enjoys drawing the most.”
Colorist Carlos Cabrera, letterer Dave Sharpe and designer Travis Escarfullery also make up the creative team for the project, which bows Feb. 10 from Amazon’s Comixology Originals.
Guggenheim was a key architect of the CW’s Arrow-verse, and won an Emmy for his work on Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia, and has feature credits including Green Lantern and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.
In the comic book space, he recently released The Adventures of Ulysses Monarch for Comixology and has written Star Wars, X-Men and Spider-Man books.
