Netflix’s New Releases Coming in January 2026
Take a look at the movies and TV shows that are hitting the streaming service this month.
Yet another Harlan Coben adaptation; a slick-looking mystery drama series starring Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal; an easy-on-the-eye globe-trotting rom-com; an action drama powered by Hollywood’s most enduring couple, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck; the Free Solo guy trying to free solo live up the 11th tallest building; and the hotly anticipated fourth season of one of the world’s biggest television dramas are among the highlights of the new film and TV series launching on Netflix in January.
Harlan Coben cannot be denied! The prolific American writer’s latest Netflix adaptation of one of his works hits the streamer on Jan. 1, and we’re heading back to the U.K. again for Run Away. The eight episode series has been adapted for television by Danny Brocklehurst, the man behind the global Coben hits for Netflix Fool Me Once and Missing You and also the Coben Amazon adaptation Lazarus. The plot to Run Away isn’t too complex, as the title hints at a father (played by the perpetually put upon James Nesbitt) is searching for his runaway daughter. Expect lots of twists, slightly outlandish plot points, really committed acting and a U.K. that kinda feels American (you’ll know what I mean). The cast also includes Ellie de Lange, Ruth Jones, Minnie Driver, Alfred Enoch, Lucian Msamati and Jon Pointing.
Jan. 8 will see the release of His & Hers, an intriguing high budget mystery drama series starring and produced by Tessa Thompson. Set in Atlanta, Thompson plays a news anchor named Anna who is becoming something of a recluse due to her job, but she is drawn back to her hometown following a murder. Anna is reinvigorated by the murder case, but her fervor ignites the suspicions of Detective Jack Harper (Jon Bernthal). The cast also includes Pablo Schreiber, Crystal Fox, Sunita Mani and Rebecca Rittenhouse.
Heads up rom-com fans! On Jan. 9 Netflix drops People We Meet on Vacation. Expect lots of good-looking people being very good-looking and falling in love in very good-looking locations. Based on the 2021 novel of the same name by Emily Henry, the feature stars rising stars Emily Bader (My Lady Jane) and Tom Blyth (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) as two friends, with two very different personalities, who once went on a magical trip together but drifted apart afterward. But they rekindle their feelings for each other on another exotic trip. Bless. Directed by Brett Haley, the cast for People We Meet on Vacation also includes Lukas Gage, Jameela Jamil, Alan Ruck and Molly Shannon.
Netflix’s big movie for January is one that is sure to be a hit with dads the world over. On Jan. 16, the streamer debuts The Rip, an action thriller that features an insane cast and is directed by action veteran Joe Carnahan (Narc, Smokin’ Aces, The A-Team and The Grey). The logline for the movie reads: “Upon discovering millions in cash in a derelict stash house, trust among a team of Miami cops begins to fray. As outside forces learn about the size of the seizure, everything is called into question — including who they can rely on.” If that doesn’t get your motor running, then behold this cast: Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Scott Adkins, Kyle Chandler, Néstor Carbonell and Lina Esco. Woof!
Netflix’s big live event for January is Skyscraper Live, an event that will see famed free climber Alex Honnold take on one of the world’s tallest buildings. Honnold, who came to global prominence with Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin’s 2018 Oscar-winning documentary Free Solo, will attempt to free climb Taipei 101 with a global audience watching live on Jan. 23. Just for reference, Taipei 101 is 1,667 ft (that’s 508 m for the rest of the world) tall and is currently the world’s 11th tallest building.
And finally, on Jan. 29, Netflix drops the latest season (well the first part of it, anyway) of its monster hit Bridgerton. The Regency period drama, a true bodice ripper, turns its attention to Benedict, the second Bridgerton son played by Luke Thompson. The logline for the season reads: “Despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, Benedict is loath to settle down — until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver at his mother’s masquerade ball.” Season four will be made up of 8 episodes, and the cast includes Claudia Jessie, Yerin Ha, Ruth Gemmell, Katie Leung, Hannah Dodd, Victor Alli, Luke Newton and the excellent Nicola Coughlan. As mentioned, season four is split into two parts, with Part 2 dropping on Feb. 26
Movies added to Netflix in January include 12 Years a Slave, 30 Minutes or Less, Becky, Brüno, Colombiana, Conan the Destroyer, Dawn of the Dead, Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2, District 9, Dune, Erin Brockovich, Forever My Girl, Free Solo, Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, Green Room, Harry and the Hendersons, Hellboy, Johnny Mnemonic, Just Go With It, Lone Survivor, Man on Fire, Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life, My Girl, Only the Brave, Pitch Perfect, Priscilla, Twins and Wild Things.
