Newcastle United have recalled Antonio Cordero from his loan spell at KVC Westerlo, and the winger will join Spanish second division side Cadiz on loan until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old joined Newcastle on a free transfer after leaving Malaga in the summer transfer window. He had attracted interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid prior to joining the Premier League club.
The Spaniard joined KVC Westerlo in August in what was meant to be a season-long loan deal. However, he struggled for game time in Belgium and made just eight appearances in total, all off the bench. This totalled only 87 minutes of league football.
After a review from the new Newcastle sporting director Ross Wilson, who joined the club in October, it has been decided that the teenager will temporarily return to Spain and rejoin Cadiz, a club where he previously played youth football.
Newcastle want the winger to be exposed to more game time and believe that letting him return to Spain, somewhere he is familiar with, will enable him to acclimatise quickly and regain his confidence.
Cadiz are sixth in the Segunda Division, seven points off league leaders Real Racing Club de Santander.
Following Tuesday’s 3-1 away victory over Burnley, Newcastle are next in action against Crystal Palace at St James’ Park on Sunday.
