Nicolas Cage stars as John Madden in teaser for upcoming Amazon biopic
Nicolas Cage and Christian Bale will bring football legends John Madden and Al Davis to life in Amazon MGM’s upcoming biopic.
Coming next Thanksgiving: Nicolas Cage as John Madden.
Amazon MGM Studios released the first teaser for “Madden” on Christmas Day, with viewers getting a glimpse of Cage stepping into the colossal shoes of Madden — the larger-than-life football great who went from coaching the Raiders to a Super Bowl victory to becoming the broadcaster whose voice defined the sport for generations of TV viewers.
Right beside him, Christian Bale portrays Raiders owner Al Davis, complete with his signature glasses and slicked-back hair.
“The film follows Madden’s remarkable journey — from his Super Bowl-winning partnership with Al Davis and the Raiders, to creating Madden NFL, and becoming one of the most iconic voices in football history,” the studio wrote on X.
The trailer shows Cage as Madden at different stages of his career, with the actor taking on Madden’s bulky build and singular energy. In one image from the film, Cage dons a light-weight Raiders jacket, cradling a football in one hand while showing off a Super Bowl ring on the other, with Bale standing alongside, showing off Davis’ own Super Bowl ring.
Assuming Davis’ Brooklyn-stained accent in the teaser, Bale says: “There’s only one John Madden. They didn’t make another one. He is one of a kind.” Another line teases, “Football wouldn’t be football without him.”

The movie follows Madden’s journey from humble beginnings to coaching the Raiders to a 1976 Super Bowl win, then becoming a media personality, video game icon and brand pitchman.
Madden covered 20 Thanksgiving games for CBS and Fox as a broadcaster, providing commentary season after season. He once said, “There’s no place that I would rather be today on Thanksgiving than right here, right now, at a football game.” Madden also introduced one of football’s most notable traditions: the “Turkey Leg Award,” famously given to the MVP of the Thanksgiving game for the first on-air bite of the holiday staple.
