Oklahoma is expected to hire former Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten as its tight ends coach, according to a program source.
Witten, who played 17 seasons in the NFL and made 11 Pro Bowls, has most recently been the head coach at Liberty Christian in Argyle, Texas. He led Liberty Christian to two state championships in Texas’ private and parochial classification. He has no collegiate coaching experience.
According to reports, the Sooners, who reached the College Football Playoff this season, are expected to move on from tight ends coach Joe Jon Finley, who played for the program in the mid-2000s.
Witten’s son, Cooper Witten, is a five-star linebacker prospect in the 2027 recruiting cycle and holds an offer from Oklahoma.
Jason Witten is a Tennessee native who starred at the University of Tennessee from 2000 through 2002. He earned first-team All-SEC honors in 2002 and was a third-round pick of the Cowboys in the 2003 NFL Draft.
