A remote community on the borders of three states in Australia will mark New Year's Eve three times tonight.

The event has been running at Cameron Corner for more than 20 years.

The triple celebration is ensured by the differing time zones in the three states on New Year's Eve.

An outback community located at the junctions of the Queensland, South Australia and New South Wales borders will do just that tonight, each time the clock strikes midnight in the three states.

Cameron Corner local Kate Osman has been part of the triple New Year's Eve shindig since 2000.

She hosts revellers at her corner-store-come-pub, before the party moves down the road to the state marker, known as the "corner post", at 11pm.

"[It's] about 400 metres from the pub and we have fireworks for each new year," she told ABC Newcastle Breakfast.

The triple treat is ensured due to time zone and daylight saving time differences.

Population explosion

It doesn't get much more remote than Cameron Corner, which is 1,674 kilometres from Sydney, 1,342km from Brisbane, and 1,051km from Adelaide.

According to the 2021 census, the population of Cameron Corner was just 19 people, but Ms Osman said the parties had been known to attract hundreds.

"They come from all over the world," she said.

"We've had people come from Italy, they're here in Australia just to be at Cameron's Corner for New Year's."

It can be a hot experience for those used to a white Christmas.

"It reaches 45 to 55 degrees Celsius … we have a bar full of very cold beer and air conditioning," Ms Osman said.
