Police are investigating the circumstances around SA's first fatal crash of the new year, which involved a motorbike south of Adelaide.

Two P-platers will face court after one was allegedly detected speeding at more than 200 kilometres an hour in Adelaide's south overnight, police say.

Police allege the men, both aged 19, were driving separate vehicles that were street racing along Adelaide's Southern Expressway when they were spotted about 3:15am.

One of the cars, a red Subaru hatchback, was allegedly detected travelling at 209km/h at Reynella, and both vehicles were tracked via traffic management cameras.

SA Police Assistant Commissioner John De Candia described such behaviour as "outrageous" and "absolutely reckless".

The cars were later found parked on River Road at Noarlunga Downs, and the alleged drivers were located nearby.

The alleged driver of the Subaru — a Seaford Rise man — was arrested and charged with extreme speed, street racing, breaching the conditions of his provisional licence and providing false details.

Police said he had been bailed to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court in March.

The other 19-year-old, from Barmera, was reported for street racing and breaching his licence conditions, and is expected to be summonsed to appear in the same court.

The two cars have been impounded for 28 days.

Motorcyclist killed in Fleurieu crash

Hours earlier, the state recorded its first road death of 2026 when a motorcyclist crashed at Delamere south of Adelaide on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

Emergency services were called to Cole Road about 4:30pm on Friday but the 49-year-old Lyndoch man died at the scene.

"Major Crash are investigating that. We certainly encourage anyone who may have any dashcam or anything like that to come forward," Assistant Commissioner De Candia said.

"The full circumstances are still being investigated, but you want to be at the dinner table tonight, you want to be able to catch up with your mates at the footy."
