ST. LOUIS — Two years after joining the St. Louis Blues via an offer sheet, defenseman Philip Broberg has decided to stay with the club long term. He signed a six-year, $48 million contract extension, the club announced Saturday.
Broberg, 24, would have been a restricted free agent July 1.
The Blues are keeping an up-and-coming defenseman, who was recently named to Sweden’s roster for the 2026 Olympics, at a reasonable rate. In exchange, he will be just 31 years old when the contract expires, and in line for another significant contract.
General manager Doug Armstrong made headlines in the summer of 2024 when he signed both Broberg and Dylan Holloway to offer sheets.
In 113 games with the Blues, Broberg has scored 10 goals and posted 43 points, including two goals and 14 points this season. Meanwhile, he’s become a shutdown defenseman in the top pair with Colton Parayko, leading the team in ice time per game (23:18) this season.
