Looking to add depth to their starting rotation, the Baltimore Orioles are reuniting with veteran Zach Eflin on a one-year deal, a league source confirmed on Sunday.
The deal is worth $10 million and contains a mutual option for 2027, the source confirmed. The expectation is for Baltimore to remain in the market for starting pitching help. USA Today first reported the move.
Eflin, who turns 32 in April, had a miserable season in 2025, the final year of a three-year, $40 million contract. In 2023 and 2024, pitching for the Tampa Bay Rays and then Baltimore, Eflin made 59 starts with a 3.54 ERA. This past season, amid a team-wide collapse for the Orioles, Eflin went 6-5 with a 5.93 ERA in only 14 starts.
The pitcher was dogged by back problems for much of the year, missing time in both June and July before undergoing a season-ending lumbar microdiscectomy in August. Eflin’s surgery ended a string of good health after injuries sidetracked him earlier in his career.
While dealing with back trouble, Eflin saw his fastball velocity drop and his strikeout rate decline. His six-pitch mix gives him a variety of options for disarming hitters, but he will need to prove he can stay healthy.
