Teyana Taylor Sends Message to Black Women as She Accepts First Golden Globe: “We Belong in Every Room We Walk Into”
She won for best supporting actress in a motion picture for her role in 'One Battle After Another.'
Teyana Taylor is a first-time Golden Globe winner. The singer and actress took home a golden statue for best female supporting actor in a motion picture at the 2026 Golden Globes for her role as Perfidia Beverly Hills in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another.
The best supporting actress honor was the first award of the night, presented by Amanda Seyfried and Jennifer Garner. Taylor burst into tears at the call of her name and had a brief interaction with fellow Golden Globe nominee Julia Roberts, whom she said she hoped to meet tonight, as she made her way to the stage.
In her acceptance speech, Taylor spoke to her daughters who were upstairs inside the Beverly Hilton where the awards were held, joking, “Y’all better be off them damn phones and watching me right now.” She also shouted out “Paul ‘Let him cook’ Thomas Anderson,” saying, “Thank you for your vision, your trust and your brilliance. My gratitude is endless.”
Taylor ended her speech with a message to Black women, stating, “To my brown sisters and little brown girls watching tonight, our softness is not a liability. Our depth is not too much. Our light does not need permission to shine. We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter and our dreams deserve space.”
The Golden Globe for best supporting actress marks Taylor’s first Golden Globe nomination and win. Fellow nominees in the category were Amy Madigan (Weapons), Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (Sentimental Value), Emily Blunt (The Smashing Machine) and Ariana Grande (Wicked: For Good).
