A shocking incident unfolded near Tiruttani where a group of juveniles brutally attacked a 20-year-old Odia youth with sickles, filming the assault for social media. The victim, K Suraj, sustained severe injuries. Police apprehended the attackers, who were found drinking at a temple, and have registered a case of attempt to murder.

CHENNAI: A four-member juvenile gang attacked a youth from Odisha with sickles near the Old Railway Quarters. The incident was recorded by one of the attackers to post on social media.The victim, K Suraj, 20, recently came to Chennai after a family dispute. Police said that on Saturday evening, he was travelling in the Chennai-Tiruttani EMU local train, when four juveniles boarded the compartment at Tiruvalangadu, drunk and carrying two sickles in their bags. One of the boys initiated a conversation with Suraj in Hindi, which soon escalated into an argument. The dispute continued until the train reached Tiruttani. After alighting, the group took Suraj to the abandoned Old Railway Quarters and three of them attacked him, while the other recorded the incident on his phone. Suraj sustained cut injuries to his head, hands, and cheeks before the group fled the spot.The victim regained consciousness after a while and managed to reach the main road. Passers-by who noticed him bleeding alerted police. He was rushed to Tiruttani Government Hospital and later referred to Tiruvallur Government Medical College Hospital, where he is reportedly stable.
Based on a tip-off and the video uploaded online, police traced the juveniles to the Gangai Amman temple near the Tiruttani-Arakkonam bypass, where they were found drinking. Police said that the juveniles are school dropouts. Police registered a case of attempt to murder and criminal intimidation. The four juveniles were sent to Government Observation Home at Kellys.
