Toronto FC is in discussions to sign USMNT striker Josh Sargent from English Championship team Norwich City.
Toronto has made an $18 million (£13.4m) bid for the 25-year-old, though an agreement has not yet been reached. The teams remain in talks and Toronto is confident of completing a deal.
Norwich head coach Philippe Clement said that Sargent had texted him before the club’s 5-1 FA Cup win over fourth tier side Walsall on Sunday, saying that he was not available for the game, adding that the player was not injured. He reiterated that Sargent is not for sale this transfer window.
“He sent me a message to say that he was not available today because of transfer things that are in his head,” said Clement. “We need to speak about that this week inside the club.
“The club has been really clear about that. We know which situation we are in. Him and his agent know the situation, so he will not leave in this transfer window.”
Sargent has made 24 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring eight goals and providing three assists.
He has been capped 29 times at international level, though he only made two appearances for the U.S. in 2025 — in the Nations League semi-final against Panama in March and in a friendly against South Korea in July.
Sargent joined Norwich in August 2021 from German club Werder Bremen while the club was in the Premier League, though he could not prevent the team’s relegation to the Championship that season. He has played 157 games in total for the club, recording 56 goals and 15 assists.
