Venezuela has accused the United States of launching attacks after a series of explosions struck Caracas and other regions, prompting President Nicolás Maduro to say his government had repelled what he called U.S. military aggression and to declare a state of emergency. The blasts were reported around 2 a.m. local time, accompanied by the sound of aircraft overhead, with smoke seen rising from a military base hangar and power outages affecting parts of the capital. U.S. officials told Reuters that American forces were conducting strikes inside Venezuela, amid an expanded U.S. military presence in the region aimed at intercepting alleged drug trafficking vessels linked to the country.
